What size boat is best to live on? Measure usable space, tankage and storage for the people who will actually live aboard. Two layouts of the same length can feel very different after a week on board.
Test a normal day
Try the berth, shower, galley and companionway. Work out where wet clothes, groceries and tools will go and whether one person can sleep while another is on watch. A nominal cabin count is not a guarantee that every berth suits an adult.
Compare running and berthing costs
Ask for a marina quote using length and beam and check access for maintenance. A wide catamaran can need a different berth from a monohull of the same length. Compare two-cabin yachts and three-cabin yachts to see actual layouts.
