Swedish steel bluewater cruiser 42

1983
42 ft
Panama, San Blas

The Swedish steel bluewater cruiser 42 feet completely ready for circumnavigation is a robust and well-maintained yacht. Constructed at the Fortuna Shipyard in 1983, the boat’s interior and systems were professionally completed in 1994.

The hull underwent comprehensive grit-blasting and ultrasonic thickness surveys at a Danish shipyard in 2023, confirming its original 4mm and 5mm steel plating. Insulated above the waterline, the boat is well-suited for cold climates, maintaining warmth efficiently.

Numerous upgrades, including modern electronics and energy systems, reflect its suitability for extended liveaboard and cruising adventures, as its current owners have proven during their recent voyage beginning in Denmark in 2023.

Equipped with a powerful Perkins 84hp engine, a Geko marine generator, and extensive fuel and water storage, the RW 42 is ready for long passages. The engine is original. From the papers, the engine is the year 1993.

There is no track of running hours on it, but it starts easily, does not consume lube oil or cooling water. In general, a smooth and powerful engine.

The owner regularly checks the rigging before each longer passage. It is in good condition. It is a very strong rigging with double head stays, double stern stays, and double halyards for the mainsail.

It has SELDEN ball bearing cars for the mainsail which makes hoisting and reefing very smooth.

It has double spinnaker poles for going wing-on-wing with 2 head sails downwind.

The boat boasts a comprehensive suite of navigation aids, such as an iPad Pro with Navionics, AIS transponder, and Iridium GO satellite internet. Its solar panels and Victron power management system ensure energy self-sufficiency, supported by newly installed AGM batteries

The sail inventory includes an Elvström mainsail with Selden cars, furling genoa, and additional hank-on sails, making it adaptable to various sailing conditions. The owner is currently not using the mizzen as they prefer free mobility on the aft deck, and use the space for solar power and wind-wane. Everything is onboard to get the mizzen back to work, but the solar arc needs to be moved.

The bathroom is with a shower.

It is currently not possible to hang the dinghy on the stern—they carry it on the forward deck for passages.

There is a 40 l boiler for hot water.

There are two tables for the cockpit. One is foldable and sits permanently on the forward side of the pedestal. It is just big enough for one or two people. The other is behind the pedestal and is removed when sailing. The benches are around 190cm.

Additional amenities include a well-equipped galley, a Trobolo composting toilet (it is possible to go back to a normal seawater toilet), a stainless steel septic tank onboard, a Pioner dinghy with a new outboard motor, and a stainless steel septic tank. The composting toilet was installed so the owner could live on the boat in the marina in Denmark.

With safety features like a serviced liferaft, robust bilge systems, and extensive spare parts onboard, this boat is a ready-to-go, self-sufficient cruiser ideal for adventurous sailors.
