New to sailing, in fact haven’t gotten her in the water yet. Why is it the outboard generally mounted on the port side? I never drove a tiller boat with my right hand…ever. I was wondering if its less likely to cavitation???

On a small sailboat, you generally aren’t ‘operating’ the outboard, in that you’re using the tiller to steer, and you need the outboard far enough away from the rudder so that the propeller doesn’t chew it up.
I only turn the outboard when I’m flipping it around to back up — which I hardly ever do. My outboard is on the starboard side. I believe the placement is arbitrary.
