Hi everyone ! I’m about to replace my chainplates on a gin fizz (37ft, from 80’s monohull, with balsa sandwich deck). And since it’s quite expensive to get them made, and that epoxy and carbon works are quite accessible today…
I was wondering, does anyone as replaced his classic chainplates by some composite one ? Had a look on internet but haven’t found much, especially for boats from this era.
carbon is awesome in tension and compression
not so good in sheer and chafe
.
So the holes you need in chainplates will require engineering for composites. in the end I suspect it will cost quite a bit more than SS
